Pakistan have confirmed the appointment of Dav Whatmore as their new coach on a two-year contract.

The 57-year-old former Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Lancashire coach will take charge of the team for the first time at the Asia Cup, which starts in Bangladesh on March 11.

The Pakistan Cricket Board had been looking for a new full-time coach after Waqar Younis quit last October, due to personal reasons.

Under interim coach Mohsin Khan, Pakistan won Test series against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh before whitewashing England in the three-Test rubber in the United Arab Emirates.

Englishman Julien Fountain has also been named as Pakistan's new fielding coach in place of Ijaz Ahmed.

Australian Whatmore said: "We will do our best to produce the best results with our available talent and I am confident of good results."
