Mumbai Indians never recovered after Sachin Tendulkar was bowled by Narine
Sunil Narine: Took four wickets as Kolkata pulled off a 32-run victory
Kolkata Knight Riders are poised to qualify for the IPL play-offs after a 32-run victory over the Mumbai Indians on Wednesday.
Sunil Narine proved the hero for the Knight Riders as he took 4-15 to ensure Mumbai never got close to chasing down a victory target of 141, the Indians eventually being bowled out for a meagre 108.
Narine took the crucial wicket of Sachin Tendulkar (27) and Mumbai's chase never really recovered as they lost their last six wickets for just 12 runs as the run-rate spiralled upwards.
Earlier, Kolkata's innings had got off to an awful start as RP Singh removed Brendon McCullum for just one and then bowled Jacques Kallis for a golden duck.
Gautam Gambhir struck three fours and a six before departing for 27, but it was the efforts of Manoj Tiwary that held the innings together as he constructed a patient 41 from 43 balls to help his side towards a respectable total.
Yusuf Pathan also made an unbeaten 21 to help Kolkata finish their 20 overs on 140-7, a score which proved more than sufficient thanks to the mystery of Narine's spin.
