The United Arab Emirates joined the Formula One calendar in 2009, with the race taking place in the capital city, Abu Dhabi. A new circuit means state-of-the-art facilties and a track designed by F1 circuit designer Hermann Tilke. The track features a Monaco-style harbour front section using public roads, and another section similar to the Eau Rouge corner of the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. The circuit has three grandstand areas and part of its pit lane exit runs underneath the track. A sight to behold in its brilliance and modern style, UAE sets the benchmark for modern-day F1 tracks.
There are a growing number of airlines from around the world currently landing at Abu Dhabi International Airport. About 50 airlines link Abu Dhabi to the rest of the world. However, once there the best way to get to the circuit is via taxi. These can be flagged down on the roadside and most drivers speak English.
