Caspar Netcher (left): Hits the front to win the Greenham Stakes at Newbury
Caspar Netscher made a winning reappearance in the AON Greenham Stakes at Newbury.
The 3-1 chance won the Gimcrack and Mill Reef during a successful juvenile campaign and and was always travelling nicely in behind the leaders here.
Bronterre tried to take command two furlongs out but he was soon passed by Boomerang Bob, who for a stride or two threatened to spring a significant surprise.
However Shane Kelly switched the winner to the stands' rail and he picked up nicely for pressure to score by a length.
Sky Bet halved the winner in price to 25-1 for the QIPCO 2000 Guineas.
Winning trainer Alan McCabe said: "He'd got the best form in the race. He didn't relish the ground, but he wanted to win.
"He improved all of last year and he's still improving from what we have seen. He's got to go for the (2000) Guineas and Charles (Wentworth, owner) had an agreement that whoever rode him in the Greenham will ride him in the Guineas."
Richard Hannon said of Bronterre: "They went off too fast. I thought he'd go away and win but that didn't happen. We will just have to see how he is."
