Serena: Third Wimbledon title

Serena Williams landed her third Wimbledon title after overcoming elder sister Venus 7-6 (7/3) 6-2 in Saturday's final.

The American second seed dominated the baseline rallies and outmanoeuvred the defending champion to seal a comprehensive straight sets victory in an hour and 27 minutes.

The head-to-head record between the Williams duo told its own story going into Saturday's final with both sisters sharing 10 wins over the other sibling.

And predictably, the scoreboard was unable to split the pair in the opening exchanges as both players demonstrated their serving prowess.

Younger sister Serena is labelled as the better server of the two and the 27-year-old needed every ounce of her booming shot to come through the eighth game after staring two-break points in the face.

Unanswerable tennis

The American managed to bludgeon her way through that game and then proceeded to take her elder sister to deuce in the eleventh game, but again it went with serve.

Inevitably a tie-break beckoned and it went Serena's way after some unanswerable tennis.

First, the world No.2 raced to a 6-2 lead in the breaker before taking the opener on her second set point after pulling a top-spin backhand lob right out of the top drawer.

The second set went with serve until the sixth game when Venus' first serve deserted her and she was made to pay the price.

Predator

The No.3 seed was unable to find a first serve as she conceded a break point and a double-fault saw the 29-year-old hand the momentum to her sister.

Serena - widely considered the most fearsome competitor in the women's game - latched onto Venus' dip in confidence like a predator hunting prey and soon a championship point arose.

Venus managed to save three of them in all - the five-time defending champion clearly not ready to give up her crown so hastily.

But Venus could not hold onto her beloved Venus Rose-water dish for another year as she relinquished her title when Serena forced her into an error.
