Karlsson: European Tour's Golfer of the Month for September
Robert Karlsson has been named as the European Tour's Golfer of the Month for September following his excellent victory at the Mercedes-Benz Championship in Cologne.
The Swede clinched his eighth career European Tour title in Germany as he withstood a strong late charge from Italy's Francesco Molinari.
It also saw him finally register a win after a tremendously consistent season that had previously seen him gather no fewer than nine top-ten finishes - including at the Masters, US Open and Open Championship.
"Obviously I am delighted," Karlsson told the European Tour's official website.
"It is great to be acknowledged for all the hard work you put in over a season and this award recognises what was a wonderful win for me in the Mercedes-Benz Championship in Cologne."
Karlsson, who represented Europe at the Ryder Cup at Valhalla, has since gone on to add a second success to his CV this season having triumphed at last week's Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland.
Also commended for their efforts in September were Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez, for his third-place finishes in the Omega European Masters and the Mercedes-Benz Championship, and England's Ian Poulter who finished the Ryder Cup as top points scorer in the event with four points out of five matches.
Nick Faldo told Golf Night that the Ryder Cup was a "special" time, despite Europe's defeat.
