And Woodward, who is now the director of elite performance for the British Olympic Association, said: "I will be attending the Help for Heroes match on September 20 with my wife Jayne.
"It's a day I'm really looking forward to and I hope as big a crowd as possible turn up to support such a great cause and raise as much money as possible for our injured service personnel.
"I've returned from Beijing where the Great Britain team won a huge number of medals and arrived back to a heroes welcome. They and I would be the first to admit however that the real heroes are the ones that serve in Iraq and Afghanistan and areas of conflict around the world.
