Sidebottom: Out of Twenty20

England pace bowlers Ryan Sidebottom and Chris Tremlett are doubtful for the first one-day international against South Africa on Friday.

Sidebottom will miss Monday's ODI against Scotland and Wednesday's Twenty20 international against South Africa with a hip problem, and will have a fitness test in Loughborough on Tuesday.

The left-armer has been suffering from back-related injuries all summer, missing two of the four Test matches and looking under-par in the other two.

However, coach Peter Moores is confident Sidebottom will be fit in time to take his place in the one-day series.

"Physically he's in a better shape than he was 12 months ago, but he has had a lot of workload and he's bowled a lot of overs in the Test matches," explained Moores.

"We rested him for the last Test and it's given him a bit more of a window to get fully recharged. He's had a bit of groin pain and neck pain, which they are hopeful of getting cleared up so he is available for the next period to come.

"I saw him just before we came up here and he's in good spirits, he's feeling very fit and strong so he's doing some work down at the Performance Centre (in Loughborough) with a view to meeting up with us when we get back down there.

"He's worked hard over the last 16 months, but he picked up three or four niggles all at the same time and then he compensated for that as he's bowled."

Tremlett is struggling with a heel injury but has travelled to Edinburgh, with Yorkshire all-rounder Tim Bresnan added to the squad as cover.
