Venus Williams - two-time winner in NYC.

Player Profile

Venus heads into her home major with serious doubts lingering over her fitness.

A knee injury has kept the 30-year-old sidelined since Wimbledon, although her form this year suggests that, if fit, she could pose plenty of problems.

The two-time champion at Flushing Meadows has already won two titles this season - in Dubai and Acapulco - and also made the final in Miami.

Such form saw her head to SW19 as the world number two. However, a shock quarter-final defeat, followed by injury, has seen her drop down.

She will need a lot to go her way if she is to land her eighth Grand Slam title in New York, but it would be foolish to write off a player with such power and athleticism.
