Nadal - seeking career Grand Slam.

Player Profile

The world number one gets another chance to complete the career Grand Slam at this year's US Open and he looks sure to be there or thereabouts.

Last year's attempt to become only the seventh player in history to win all four major titles foundered in the last four when he lost to eventual champion Juan Martin Del Potro.

However, Nadal was not at his best at the time, struggling with injury after a long period on the sidelines.

The same cannot be said this year as the Spaniard has been back to his best this summer.

He won every claycourt match, regaining the French Open title in the process, and then produced his best tennis in the latter rounds at Wimbledon where he also reclaimed the trophy.

The hardcourts undoubtedly provide the toughest test for Nadal - the surface is unforgiving on his troublesome knees, while the quick pace of the court is also an issue.

Nadal has won plenty of matches in the build up to Flushing Meadows, although not necessarily against the very best.

Nevertheless, you can always expect a strong challenge from the Spanish southpaw.
