Player Profile

The Chinese player made an impressive run to the Australian Open semi-finals in 2010 before falling to eventual champion Serena Williams.

The defeat - a straight-sets loss in two tie-breaks - came after Li had claimed the scalps of Venus Williams and current world number one Caroline Wozniacki.

She built on the breakthrough with some solid results on the WTA Tour and enjoyed a successful grasscourt season, winning in Birmingham and reaching the last eight at Wimbledon.

An aggressive player from the baseline, Li has shown she can upset the big names when on top form - as she proved when winning the recent warm-up event in Sydney where she beat Kim Clijsters in the final.
