Cole: proud of what he achieved with Manchester United
Manchester United strike legends Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke reflect on their glory days on Goals on Sunday.
The duo formed one of the most prolific strike partnerships during their years at Manchester United, firing the Red Devils to an unprecedented treble in 1999.
"I have always said that regardless of what you do as a centre forward - you can score 40 goals - if your team is not competing for silverware then that is irrelevant," said Cole on Goals on Sunday.
"I was lucky that I played in a great team with some great players and to achieve what we achieved makes me feel really honoured.
"To win the European Cup has got to be the pinnacle of any professional footballers dream. To play in one and to win it was a boyhood dream and I was fortunate to enough to achieve just that."
Yorke, who was released by Sunderland at the end of last season, believes that the class of 1999 are well worth their tag of the best Manchester united team ever.
"Well obviously we would think that, especially with what we had done and what we won in that particular year," said the Trinidad & Tobago star.
"To win the treble and in the manner we did was amazing. Everything was very close - we won the league by one point, and we just seemed to roll on and roll on. We knocked Arsenal out of the FA Cup, it was just such a tight season in itself and to come through it as a whole group was great.
"A lot of people remember how we did it - Manchester United won the European Cup in 2008, but it was the way we did it that made it absolutely special."
