D'Oliveira: key figure in South African cricket

Sky Sports will tell the dramatic and often turbulent 40-year story of South African cricket and its role in the front line battle against apartheid.

Out of the Wilderness is a four-part series that will be screened during lunch each Saturday of England's Test series with South Africa, which begins at Lord's today.

Presented by Charles Colvile, it chronicles South African cricket's story from the Basil D'Oliveira affair in the 1960's through to the present day and includes interviews with the likes of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Dr Ali Bacher, Peter Hain, Doug Insole, Omar Henry, Gerlad Majola, Allan Donald, Graham Gooch, Mike Gatting, Graeme Pollock and Colin Croft.

Episode 1 - The Wilderness Years
The opening episode documents the Basil D'Oliveira affair, the fall out and South Africa's subsequent ban from world cricket.

Episode 2 - Rebel Tours
The dramatic story of the rebel tours during South Africa's ban, featuring interviews with those that played for and against the rebels.

Episode 3 - The Long Road Back
Details South Africa's readmission into world cricket through to Hanse Cronje's controversial captaincy.

Episode 4 - The Way Ahead
The final episode examines South African cricket now and into the future and analyses the quota system.

Sky Sports is screening every ball from England's series against South Africa exclusively live and interactive. Coverage is in High Definition plus Dolby 5.1 surround, providing a cinema-like experience for those with compatible systems.

In the commentary box will be some of the biggest names in cricket. The coverage is presented by David Gower, with commentary from Sir Ian Botham, Michael Atherton, Nasser Hussain, David Lloyd, Michael Holding and Shaun Pollock. Each day, one commentator will be in the Third Man seat, providing detailed analysis throughout the day.

Charles Colvile also presents extended nightly highlights along with former England captain Bob Willis after each day's play.

Sky Sports' live cricket this summer also includes a record number of matches from the four main domestic competitions including each county at least three times.

Support programming includes Cricket AM, presented by Simon Thomas and Anita Rani and Cricket Writers on TV with Paul Allott, are on Saturday and Sunday mornings respectively.
