Nobody really knows what Masch said to get the second yellow, regardless of what Liverpool has to say about it. The way he acted afterwards was disgraceful and really didn't help his case at all. That said, Man U absolutely outclassed Liverpool today. It's easy to use the red card as an excuse, but the Reds were never going to get anything out of today's match.

I cannot believe how many times Vidic & Ferdinand got away with kicking Torres and yet no yellow card for either of them. Torres was only asking for a bit of protection yet he gets booked for showing dissent. What planet is the ref on? After following football all my life, I never knew that you could actually get a 2nd yellow card for asking the ref a question. It seems to me that Utd players can do what they want when they play at home and the refs are scared of booking the players.

Owen Bennett (Arsenal fan) says...
I think it's fair to say that Liverpool are a team with too many average players. I think that Benitez has taken them as far as he can and he should step aside and let someone else take the reins. I thought that even before the sending off Liverpool were always going to lose. They played without the passion we have come to expect over the years. Mascherano deserved to be sent off. After everything that's happened this week, I think he should have had more sense than to question the ref's decisions on several occasions. Arsenal need to buy a new striker this summer. I thought that with the game at 1-1 today, they're was no-one who could come off the bench and score a goal. Van Persie is still not fully fit and Bentner still has an awful lot to learn about Premiership football. However, in my opinion, Arsenal still have the quality and self belief to win the Premiership. The games against Liverpool and United will be crucial. It will test the resolve of the young squad and exam their title credentials.

The game went a bit stale after the sending off, not what any true fans want to see. Liverpool did well considering but didn't realy stand much chance after the red card. It was a great game before that. Mascherano has nobody else to blame, after his deserved first yellow, he followed the ref blatantly swearing at him repeatedly. He was a let down and Rafa should have pulled him off after that. Then we'd have got a real game for 90 mins.

Ashley Cole's missed tackle deserved a red card. However, today's match had no resemblance to what Cole did. Mascherano's first foul did not deserve a yellow card nor a second yellow card. Torres was being consistently fouled and he received a yellow card in return. The referee and the two linesmans had cotton wool over their eyes today. What's wrong for one player questioning the referee decision. Mr Bennett is an appalling referee that should never be allowed back in the Premier League. History never lies. Liverpool will remain the most crowned team in this country.

Haha, when will you Man Utd fans just accept you always or most of the time have officials on your side? Ferguson is one of the most influential men in the Premiership, he called for protection for Ronaldo, and he got it. Where was the protection for Torres? Torres getting booked for asking the ref what was going on is ridiculous. Then Mascherano getting a red for just asking the ref what was happening. He wasn't aggresive, and didn't use bad language. Face it, it was poor refereeing from Bennett. I don't mind that Man Utd won, they deserved it I guess, but a red for that? And a yellow for Torres? If anything, Ferdinand deserved a yellow, but no, he's a Man Utd player. Andy Gray was saying after the match that during the game a player actually had a verbal volley with Bennett, using foul language. And didn't even get a yellow. My bet was he was a Man Utd player.

I thought on the whole United were by far the better team, even before the sending off. Torres, like the Anfield game, was not effective. Vidic and Ferdinand were outstanding again, Scholes exquisite as usual. Rooney should have had a hat-trick. As for Mascherano - what a fool.

Yet again the Steve Bennett show was the main talking point at Old Trafford. He was giving out bookings like a dental surgery. I can't see United mucking it up even though they have to still go to Stamford Bridge and Arsenal visit Old Trafford.

Berwyn Jones says...
I'm not saying Liverpool would have got anything from the game had they had 11 on the pitch for the whole game, but honestly, asking the ref 'whats happening?' is the most inoffensive remark you can make!! Steve Bennet should be ashamed, booking Torres for being lumped twice in the space of seconds with no action taken against Ferdinand, speechless.

Yeah, it's a tough one on the Mascherano sending-off... He was always going on at Steve Bennett, but I'm not sure how him mouthing-off was worse than Ashley Cole's blatant-red-card-tackle on Wednesday against Spurs. Is talking/pestering/arguing as bad as a career-threatening tackle?! I don't think so. As a United fan I'm obviously pleased with the win, I think we were in a comfortable position before the sending-off, but there needs to be some clarity next season for what can be said & what is not acceptable from the Ref's viewpoint. I agree, Rooney & everyone else is always swearing; that should be the first thing to be unacceptable.

Neil Bingham (Liverpool fan) says...
We were totally outclassed today. If it was the first time Mascherano mouthed off then it would have been harsh but he had done it a few times beforehand. I think it was fair he went. With players like Arbeloa, Aurelio and Babel playing we were never going to win today.

i am delighted that Manchester United have opened up a five point lead over Chelsesa and a six point lead over Arsenal. Manchester United 's performance showed us how hungry they were to retain their Premiership title. They have great quality they can bring on from the bench i.e Nani and Carlos Tevez.United have the squad to win the premiership and chamnpions league. As for Javier Mascherano did you not watch Ashley Cole apologise publicly for for questioning a referees decision would you please get a life. The game is hard enough as it is without footballers questioning refereeing decisions. As for Chelsea and Arsenal you will be fighting for second place between now and the end of the seasonWill u starrt learnig how to accept defeat gracefully.

Nausherwan Saleem (Manchester United fan) says...
Well without a doubt it was Manchester United with a thrasing of Liverpool. I thought the red card was probably just a bit harsh but then again, it is important that the decisions of officials are respected. I don't feel Ashley Cole's behaviour had any impact on the decision Mr. Bennet made. Arsenal definitely seem to be out of the race now and its now between Chelsea and Man Utd. Though I must say, sir alex's men are favourites to win, but anything can still happen! As far as Avram Grant's performance is concerned, I don`t think he has answered his critics yet. The victory was just a piece of brilliance from Drogba. And Grant would need a much bigger victory in the form of a trophy to answer his critics.

Thank god for Andy Gray talking sense. Liverpool players were fouled all day by Anderson an Scholes yet no booking.Torres gets fouled 3 times then gets booked.Mascherano say why then gets sent off.Man Utd player swears at ref...what happens? Nothing. And as for Jamie Redknapp an ex Liverpool player saying what he said...well i dispair. This by the way is not my way of sayng why we lost but we would have had a better chance.

Hi, I'm a Manchester United fan and im delighted with our result today.Would have prefered a draw with Chelsea and Arsenal. I cant understand how people believe Mascherano should have stayed on, he complained at every decision Bennet made always in his face. I think he was lucky enough to stay on the pitch that long. Also Chelsea fans cannot call themselves fans!

Great result for United, Liverpool will moan about the Mascherano decision but united were comfortable before the sending off. Chelsea right back in the mix with their result, looks like the season haas finaaly caught up with Arsenal.
