Well done Padraig! A great ambasador for the Irish people.Nobody gave him a chance of completing this feat when it looked like he would withdraw with the wrist injury he sustained. But he showed the guts desire and skill of a true champion and his secoind shot to the 17th was worthy of winning any championship.

What a great tournament. it had everything for the true romantics of golf, what with Greg Norman coming so close to winning and an amateur golfer still in contention with coming into the back nine, but a special word of mention for Padraig Harrington. The course managment he displayed today was out of this world, and when he seen Ian Poulter starting to threaten out comes the driver and he gets aggressive, outstanding.

Congratulations to Padraig, a worthy winner. It is also quite fitting that he won - no one will be able to say the title is devalued because a certain player was absent - because Padraig beat him last year as well. A good Open, if not a great one. It went a bit flat at the end, largely because the winner played the last six holes so well.
