I believe that huge questions would be asked of Nick Faldo's captaincy if he were not to pick Colin Montgomerie as one of his wildcard picks for Valhalla. It has been well documented in the past that the two don't see eye to eye on certain things, but this should be put aside for the good of the European team. Darren Clarke would be my second wildcard pick.

Whilst I dearly love watching Poults play and walked the last few holes on Sunday watching him when he was in the team in Detroit, I really think he has left himself open to not being picked by not going to Gleneagles when he still had the chance of not making it an issue for Captain Nick to solve.......good luck Poults and I hope we do see you in Valhalla, but it was a big risk....unless you know something that we do not?

I would take the team as it is, minus Hansen, hopefully Kaymer plays well this week because I think he would be a better bet than miss a putt Hansen. My picks would be Darren of course better option for pairings and Daniel Chopra or Casey, the PGA tour guys should be rewarded for their play on a tough tour. Unfortunately I think time's up for Monty, everybody has to finish sometime.

would love to see fat boy monty involved. he is a legend and will certainly up his game for the cup. the american fans will of course wind him up but he's bigger than that and it will only spur him on. would love to see Clark in as well, especially after the last cup. Casey is good, but i don't think he will guarantee points. maybe next time. As for the americans, Chuck, if leftie and Perry are your biggest threats, which they probably are, we will be laughing all the way to the cup.

We should do up a Ryder cup team based on World Ranking points won in 2008 ¿ it would give us a very strong team. Harrington - 294, Garcia - 244, Stenson - 205, Westwood - 171, Karlson - 153, Jimenez - 143, Mc Dowell - 142, Kaymer - 129, Poulter - 108, Clarke - 100, Casey - 91, Wilson - 88,,,, Poulter, Clarke & Casey would all be included, but Rose would miss out

Yes! Darren Clarke finding some form at exactly the right moment. It's looking great for the European boys just now. Rose should be sewing up his place this week, Paul Casey is in sparkling form and Darren who's been playing lovely golf from tee to green finally made some putts today. It's not looking good for Monty but he really should have played this week, he's leaving it way too late, but it's looking great for Europe all round. Hopefully Poulter can post a good score tonight and get himself up there and into a qualification place. Then we can take Casey and Clarke and we'll be sorted! http://pgatourist.blogspot.com/

I really am amazed at Monty's continuing belief that he should even be considered as a Captain's pick for the team. His form over a long period of time has been deplorable - just look at his recent performances in the majors, missed cuts and bottom finishes and his performances in WGC events is pretty lousy also. I think he should discount himself from the equation - tell the Captain that his form is likely to be a liabilty that will far outweigh any assets his past experience in the event will provide. I don't believe Nick Faldo will take a chance on Monty's golf and his questionable influence on the team in terms of motivation and leadership would almost certainly undermine the Captain. (Remember his antics in the Seve Trophy, I doubt Faldo has forgotten). Faldo has always been a solitary and very strong minded individual and I don't see him suddenly 'changing his spots' and welcoming an outside influence who may well detract from his intentions. 'Why create a problem when you haven't got one'

I really do not like Monty but for two weeks every two years i'm a fan of his willingness to stand up and give 110% on every shot for Europe. If I were Faldo and this was picking a football team he would be first on my list.

Its difficult to see past another comprehensive European victory at the moment with the 7 players that look to have almost certainly qualifed (Harrington, Stenson, Garcia, Jimenez, Westwood, Karlsson and McDowell) all in great form, especially compared to their American counterparts. Ironically, I do feel one that thing could potentially harm the Europeans is with the those players playing so well and a few at the bottom end of the standings not in such great form, we could end up with a situation like 1999 where the captain didnt trust 3 of the players to play on the first 2 days which ultimately proved costly. For my twopennys worth I think that Justin Rose will hang on to his spot in the top ten now after his strong USPGA showing and that Ian Poulter and Martin Kaymer will join him in rounding out the top ten. As regards captains picks, im pretty sure Paul Casey will get one, especially if Poulter forces his way in automatically. It is disappointing though he has given up on qualifying automatically by staying in the states as the chance of him getting in on the world points list is virtually zero. I also quite like Ross Fishers chances for the other though with Faldo spending a lot of time commentating in the states it cant be discounted he will pick someone who plays there full time as he will have seen far more of them than of the players who play exclusively in Europe. Daniel Chopra winning 2 PGA tournaments in the last year or so might not have gone unnoticed!

Derek Field says...

Forget Monty, he has already admitted he is only playing to about 60% so he has really ruled himself out, 110% must be minimum qualification, people who really want it like Poults and Casey. Also I don't want to listen to the Americans bemoaning the fact that Tiger isn't in their squad, he doesn't have the greatest Ryder Cup record anyway and he would have struggled to live with Padraig and Sergio in the recent majors. The one person who will give votes for Monty to be on the team is Zinger as with Monty's current form it is a couple of easy points for the USA. Could be the only points they get!!

Us guys over here in Valhalla are so excited for the Ryder Cup to be coming here. I can promise all you Europeans that the town is looking sick for the Ryder Cup. Kenny Perry and Leftie are gonna pulverise the Europeans. The Kentucky Derby is the biggest sporting event in Kentucky but the Ryder Cup will be hugr. And dont forget to enjoy KFC IN KENTUCKY!

I personally think the team will be...Padriag Harrington, Lee Westwood, Henrik Stenson, M.A.Jimenez, Robert Karlson, Greame McDowell, Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter, Justin Rose, Oliver Wilson and the 2 wild cards will be Colin Montgomerie and either Darren Clarke or Paul Casey - I would like it to be Clarke as he is Irish but Casey seems to be better at the moment!
