Ricky looked in good condition and pretty sharp from the off. The big concern is the ease with which Lazcano could land punches. Ricky's head movement was non-existent and he was unable to cover up properly when hurt. Although on the offensive I don't think there is a better 140lb fighter in the world, he simply can't defend well enough. Combine this with age and he is started to look very beatable. Magnigalli is a good fight for him as the guy doesn't have a punch... but Cotto or (god forbid) Mayweather again would be too much for a fighter who has lit up British boxing but is now sadly on the wane.

I was there on Saturday and Hatton did what was asked of him Laszcano was good opponent and Hatton won at least 10 rounds if not all the 12. He cannot knock every opponent out, does Mayweather. I am Hatton,s biggest fan but to be fair he has been on the decline since the Tzysu fight, for me Hatton's greatest strength was his fitness levels at the time of the Tzyu fight he was without doubt the fittest boxer on the planet. Straight after the Tzyu fight was the time to fight Mayweather at light welter and without Joe Cortez. If this had happened Hatton would still be unbeaten and probably retired having inflicetd Mayweather's first defeat. With Hatton's lifestyle and some recent long fights I do not think he will beat Mayweather in a rematch and it really hurts me to say this. Hatton does get hit to much and that along with his reduced fitness levels would lose him the fight. I hope I am wrong.

I was there on Saturday night I paid my money to be entertained and I was from start to finish. We'v seen Floyd limber to a points win against people like Baldomir at least Ricky did it with those whrilwind attacks. People seem to think Juan was handpicked he was a tough opponent with a great chin and a decent record, better than Steve Forbes who oscar warmed up against and half of Cotto's opponents. If he does the job on Paulie then one last throw at the dice at Mayweather I'll be happy with that.

i think hatton but on a great display worthy of any world champion, i must admit though at the start i was worried becuase he seemed sloppy and got caught easily but at the end he said he was very nervous which explains it. i know malignaggi is usually better then what he showed the manchester fans he uses his reflexes to brilliant effect which his style derives from and is probably harder to knock out then lazcano but that said if the hitman comes in top form paulies punches will not be able to keep him at bay and he should edge out the victory after a hard and exiting fight. From that performance i wouldnt say hattons best days were behind him in fact i didnt realise how good he actually was but i wont pay to watch him lose to mayweather again becuase thats what will happen everytime if he keeps going up to welter and wont get pbf to light welter. malignaggi's hair? a bit ridiculous really, his vainess backfired and he made a mockery of himself so im not that bothered and i doubt he'll make that mistake again i just wish it would of happened in the fight with hatton intstead!

It was a win and that was what was important first and foremost. We must remember that Lazcano had been out of the ring for over 16 months which is a long time in boxing so lasting the distance and having a few moments of success was a good performance from him. One thing is for sure Hatton will never beat Mayweather even if the fight is in the UK. Mayweather is just too good all round and lets not forget that he knocked Hatton out it wasn't a close decision. Hatton needs to stay at 140 and perhaps unify before retiring. Stay away from the Welters: Mayweather, Cotto, Margarito all too big too strong, too good.

I thought Ricky looked very nervous on saturday night. He looked over eager to get the job done. Although he won the fight easily on points i have to say i was abit concerned after the fight about the amount of shots that lazcano was able to land at will. Was it because Hatton was Nervous possibly? but i have read in the newspapers yesterday that hes past his best and that hes finished, i mean come on these are the people who are meant to be the experts. Hatton is still the best Light welter out the there no contest. And he would beat most of the better fighters at welter aswell with maybe the exception of Mayweather and Cotto. Malinaggi next who Hatton will be quite comfortably then a rematch with Mayweather and win or lose that should be it for the HITMAN

Woeful performance. Took to many punches. Rocked in the 8th and 10th and had to hold on for dear life, against a jorneyman who hasn't fought for a year and a half. Most predictable fighter of the last 20 years. Floyd, Cotto, Sugar Shane, Judah, De La Hoya, and Torres will all knock him out - I think he's lucky Witter blew it against Bradley cos he'd have given him a run for his money too. Maliganaggi will easily outpoint him too.

Nick Washbourne. WAKE UP ricky cannot beat floyd mayweather its to big a step for ricky in my opinion, i hate floyd as much as the next person but the man is a genius in the ring and would beat ricky much more easily than he did back in december.

Ricky fought well offensively, but the referee saved him (on purpose or not).. Hatton was out on his feet after eating the same check left hook that Pretty Boy floored him with.. Can you imagine if Miguel Cotto hit Hatton with that same left hook?? Ricky has some serious conditioning , dietary, and defense issues that need to be addressed if he's even considering fighting Pretty Boy again or Cotto for that matter.

good performance from hatton but when will you so called experts get it in your heads that hatton is just a good fighter. he was knocked out by a superior fighter in the pretty boy who had to much movement for him. this was lazcarno first fight since feb 07 and he could not knock him out. if the rematch with the pretty boy is made then the result will be the same but over in half the time.

I was not able to watch the fight from manchester but I was able to watch live on sky and I thought although ricky won on points without a shadow of a doubt,I also think he looked like being knocked out several times and without the time out the ref called I think ricky would of been on his back for the second time. He cant defend and I think next time out he wont be so lucky......

I was there on saturday, atmosphere was electric and ricky got the heroes welcome he deserved. Lazcano was tougher than anyone thought and ricky admited himself that he was nervous, hatton still the most exciting fighter around, who cares if he lost to mayweather,if floyd was interested in his legacy insted of his cash he'd fight cotto next, not oscar. can't wait for hatton to fight Malignaggi ,even though he got no dig he throws lots of punches and he's fast, but hatton shud take care of him in style

This was Hatton's first fight back after suffering his only career defeat to a boxing phenomenon. Add to this the pressure of fighting in front of 56,000 adoring fans in Manchester and you can understand why he felt nervous. Hatton looked sharp and hungry. So he took a few heavy shots, from a mexican fighter who has only lost 4 fights over a pretty decent career. Lazcano's combinations were slick but probably more out of desperation than him bossing the fight and he ran out of steam pretty quickly. This is testament to how well Ricky executed a near flawless fight. There aren't many (if any) fighters in the divison who could have made Lazcano look as jaded as Hatton did. Malignaggi is setting himself up for a big, big fall in probably his home town against a Ricky hatton who, if stays fit and focused can take the US by storm in his proposed final 3 fights.

Had a really good nite, thought Ricky battled hard an was unlucky not to get him out, he still getting hit with too many shots though, and he is a good enough fighter not to get hit with as many shots as he did, brilliant fight though. Thought it was disgusting the prawn sandwich brigade around the ring started leaving from the ninth round onwards to beat the traffic and get back to their mercs, an was a shame the real fans in the cheap seats who sang all nite couldn't have took their place.

From an avid fans point of view a enjoyed every minute of Ricky's homecoming fight, it was exciting throughout and not short on drama. However, with Hatton eyeing a rematch with Mayweather i watched Riky's peformance carefully. Offensively I was impressed, he looked sharp and accurate and the combination work with Lee Beard on the pads was evident. His stamina held out which was a relief seeing as how he has resently faded when fighting into the latter rounds. Defense remains a problem for the Hitman however: Lazcano was able put together extensive combinations when clinching and Ricky would just take them. In a rematch against Mayweather he can not afford this as he willl find himself on the end of a knockout defeat again.

I was there saturday night and thought it was FANTASTIC Ricky done a good job on a tough proud fighter in Lazcano. I cant understand why Rickys got so many critics, he's given british boxing fans something to cheer about and enjoy, if not for Ricky in this era then WHO else would be filling stadiums like the city of manchester? not any other british boxers thats for sure! I'd love to see mayweather rematch or cotto showdown after he's destroyed Malignaggi! Forget Witter he's not even in the same league! THERE'S ONLY ONE RICKY HATTON!!!

all i have to say is well done ricky you done yourself and manchester proud,i was at the fight and it is something i won't forget for a long time i thought ricky fought a great fight apart from being caught by a couple of decent shots from lazcano, but ricky showed why he is the champion,he admitted after the fight he was nervous but he got the job done i also don't think malignaggi would give ricky too many problems.

I think that Hatton inevitably paid for his weight changing, and he never realistically had a chance against Maywhether. The switching was understandable as, at the moment there are no true competitors for him at ten stone and, as with all boxers he had the competitive edge to carry on challenging himself, which is fair enough. Against Lazcano the other night he proved he is still the man to beat at ten stone, and I feel from here he just needs to be patient and wait for the challenges to come to him, instead of chasing the impossible.
